Thrift Store Art #2

This Cool image I bought for $.99 It measures 1 3/4 x 4 inches. It was professionally framed some many years ago. No signature I am not sure exactly what it is made of? Could be plastic with faux grain? or it could be a slab of ivory?piece of wood or bark, or something else? It is very nicely painted with terrific detail. I wonder about this one-I would like to know more and that will happen when I remove it and re-frame it. I really like folk ethnic art
This I got mostly for the frame but ended up really liking the picture. the more I look at it the better it becomes in a Henri Matisse sort of way. The image of the fish is 12x6 inches. I got it for I think $1.99. A new mat might be right for this one in the future.

  1. Sorry, I posted a comment on this right away, but my computer froze of course while in mid sentence. Truly, if it is a blog comment box, or Facebook (or any program that doesn't auto-save) I need to compose my comments in a document, so that I can be assured my 9-page commentary will not VANISH once my computer puts its head in the virtual sand.

    And now...on with it.

I like the fish the best. I love drawings, sometimes more than paintings, and this one has a lot of personality. I especially like the zig-zag line on his side. Nice frame job I agree.

The other doesn't do anything for me personally, but then...it's full of DUDES so...hahaha. It seems kinda "Persian" to me, but it could just as easily be Indian. The onion dome is kinda Taj Mahal-esque but I cannot peg it. Now that I read how small it is, I do kinda like it a big more. Certainly reminds me of stuff from art history.
