Well, back to the side boxes/side covers. I told you there was much to do just to get the fit I enjoy, though I will try to keep it short here for you.
After making the first side cover, the gap I would like these to have around the frame was just not there. I needed to make some slices and squeeze it a bit-fit and re-fit-tack weld it some- and woop-der-it-is, we have groovie gap. Now to the other side before we finish weld.
On a sad note we opened the clutch cover 'just pokin around"and found a nasty little surprise. A broken clutch basket tang. Never seen this before on any bike, and I'm really glad it didn't get into a gear and trash anything else. Tis a-bummer though, and it will have to be dealt with. Now I just gotta find one????
These may sound like hairbrain ideas, but it depends on the material and availability of the part.
ReplyDeleteA. If steel/alum can it be welded on then machined back into proper order?
B. If it were aluminum it the clutch basket "could" be recast at a foundry...
Weld and gring might be an option in a pinch, but I will find one....o-yes.
